Agartala, Mar 28: The members of Tipra Motha in the assembly protested in the well and staged walkout over the media reports of disallowing some candidates of Board examinations to write answers of Kokborok subject in Roman script.
In a Calling Attention notice, Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma raised the issue that an examination supervisor at Ampinagar Higher Secondary School in Gomati district had forced the Board candidates to write their Kokborok papers in Bengali script.
According to Debbarma, several candidates had to leave blank papers as they couldn’t write in Bengali script. He demanded re-examination for those candidates.
While discussing the issue in the House, Debbarma also raised a demand for withdrawal of a letter of the Education department to CBSE stating that the Kokborok examination should be conducted in Bengali script.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in his reply said, a report on the issue was published by a section of media. According to Dr. Saha, Tripura Board of Secondary Education informed that the question papers were being made in Bengali and the students were also answering in Bengali from the beginning.
He said, in the last year it was observed during evaluation of the papers that 55 out of 3235 candidates in Madhyamik and 45 out of 2605 candidates in Higher Secondary level had used Roman script for Kokborok subject.
Dr. Saha said, the total percentage of the students, who used Roman Script for Kokborok subject in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations, was only 1.71 percent. Their papers were evaluated with due importance.
Similarly, there was no pressure on the students from TBSE to write answers in any particular script this year also. Dr. Saha, however, informed the House that the Board would be asked to look into the issue.
