Ahead of Durga Puja celebrations, the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala organised a community outreach programme in Kalyanpur, distributing new clothes among 175 people.
The programme was held at Kalyanpur Bazar Natmandir on Friday as part of the club’s initiative to share the festive spirit with people from economically weaker sections of society.
Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, ATMA Committee Chairman Nitai Bal, Kalyanpur Merchant Association Secretary Asim Deb Roy, office-bearers of the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and other prominent persons attended the programme.
As part of the initiative, sarees, dhotis and vests were distributed among the beneficiaries. The recipients expressed their happiness on receiving the new clothes ahead of the festive season.
Speaking at the programme, the guests appreciated the Rotary Club’s initiative, noting that social celebrations become more meaningful when their joy reaches people across different sections of society.
The programme also highlighted the importance of community participation and social responsibility during the festive season.
While Durga Puja is traditionally associated with new clothes, family gatherings and celebrations, such initiatives seek to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent underprivileged families from experiencing the festive spirit.
The organisers said the initiative was aimed at spreading happiness and strengthening the values of compassion, solidarity and community support.
The gesture, they added, was not merely about distributing clothes but about conveying a message that the community stands beside those who may need support.
