A massive drug haul has sent shockwaves across Tripura after law enforcement agencies seized approximately five lakh Yaba tablets weighing nearly 50 kilograms from a 12‑wheeler truck in Panisagar, North Tripura.

The contraband, with an estimated black‑market value of Rs 40 crore, was recovered in a joint operation by Panisagar Police, Assam Rifles, and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Agartala.

Acting on a tip‑off, the truck—travelling from Assam towards Agartala—was intercepted at the Agnipasha naka point on National Highway. During the search, officers discovered 250 packets of Yaba tablets concealed inside the vehicle, confirming one of the largest seizures in recent times.

The driver, Rupam Deka (18), a resident of Noagaon, Guwahati, Assam, was immediately taken into custody. Investigators revealed that the truck had entered Tripura through Churaibari before being stopped at Agnipasha.

Authorities are now probing the source, intended destination, and wider network behind the consignment, suspecting the involvement of an inter‑state trafficking syndicate.

Police officials stated that the arrest of the driver is only the beginning of a deeper investigation aimed at identifying the masterminds of the smuggling racket. Intensive interrogation is underway to trace the chain of suppliers and receivers linked to the consignment.

The seizure has raised serious questions about how such a large volume of narcotics managed to cross into the state, prompting scrutiny of border surveillance and highway checkpoints. Security agencies have assured that inter‑state drug trafficking networks will be dismantled and that further operations are being planned to curb the menace.
