A new chapter unfolded in the governance of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on Wednesday as Runiel Debbarma was sworn in as the Chief Executive Member (CEM), alongside Chandra Kumar Jamatia, who assumed office as an Executive Member (EM). The oath-taking ceremony at the Council Bhawan in Khumulwng marked the beginning of a fresh leadership phase for the autonomous body that plays a pivotal role in the administration of Tripura’s tribal regions.
Â
Addressing the media after the ceremony, Runiel Debbarma pledged to work with “sincerity, transparency, and dedication”, stressing that the upliftment of the Tiprasa community would remain at the heart of his administration. He emphasized that the council’s immediate priority would be to accelerate development across the ADC areas, focusing on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and livelihood generation.
Â
Debbarma candidly acknowledged the financial challenges faced by the council, noting that the funds currently allocated by the state government remain inadequate to meet the growing needs of the tribal population. He vowed to appeal to both the Central Government and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for enhanced budgetary support. “We are receiving very limited funds. Despite that, we have worked over the past five years. Now, with the support of our MLAs, MDCs, and Pradyot  Kishore Deb Barma, we will press for additional resources to serve the people better,” he said.
Â
Drawing on his five years of experience as a Member of the District Council (MDC), Debbarma expressed confidence that he could steer the administration more effectively in his new role. He assured that every section of society would benefit from the council’s initiatives, promising to strengthen grassroots governance and ensure that development reaches even the remotest corners of the ADC.
Â
With Runiel Debbarma at the helm, expectations are high among tribal communities that the new executive will usher in a phase of stronger governance, inclusive growth, and renewed focus on the aspirations of the Tiprasa people.
