Sabroom Indoor Stadium rented out for commercial use; Sparks controversy

A controversy has surfaced in Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision, where the indoor stadium inaugurated by Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on December 1, 2022, is reportedly being rented out for commercial use. 

Originally built to provide modern infrastructure for athletes, the stadium located in Harina Tilla under Doulbari Gram Panchayat in Satchand RD Block is currently housing 40 to 45 out-of-state workers involved in power grid projects by the Electricity Department. 

These workers have been residing there for the past five to six months, paying a monthly rent of Rs 15,000. 

The rental arrangement was approved in the presence of senior members of the Daulbari Panchayat, with the payment being deposited into the account of Gita Rani Nath. 

This unexpected use of a public sports facility has raised concerns about governance and infrastructure management, and the local community now awaits a formal response from the Satchand Block Administration regarding the matter.
