In a heartfelt tribute to the city’s sanitation workers, a preventive health check-up and felicitation program was organized in Agartala on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Â
The initiative, led by NEEPCO Agartala in collaboration with the Agartala Psychoholics Foundation, was held at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yuba Abas.
Â
The event began with free health screenings for all attending sanitation workers, conducted under the supervision of medical professionals. Following the check-up, 51 sanitation workers were formally felicitated by NEEPCO officials in recognition of their tireless efforts in maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
Â
Gopesh Debnath, Agartala’s Cycle Mayor and representative of the Psychoholics Foundation, emphasized the deeper significance of the event. “On Gandhi Jayanti, this gesture reminds us of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of service, cleanliness, and dignity of labour,” he said. “It’s a small effort to acknowledge the silent warriors whose hard work often goes unnoticed.”
Â
Organizers expressed hope that such initiatives would foster greater respect and awareness in society for sanitation workers and their invaluable contributions.
Â
The program concluded with a collective call to ensure the health, dignity, and social recognition of these real-life heroes who keep our cities clean.
