Saturdays declared holiday for Tripura govt offices, 81 posts to be filled up

Agartala, May 25: The Tripura government has declared all Saturdays as holidays for government offices, making two-day weekends officially from now on.

Announcing the cabinet decisions on Monday, Tourism Minister and cabinet spokesperson Sushanta Chowdhury said all state government offices will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays with immediate effect.

He informed that office timings on working days have also been revised. Government offices will now function from 9:30 am to 6 pm. At the same time, the roster-based work-from-home system for Group-C and Group-D employees has been withdrawn.

Chowdhury said that considering the prevailing global situation and as part of austerity measures, nearly 75 percent of government meetings will now be conducted virtually. He added that the state government will also prioritize the purchase and outsourcing of electric vehicles.

The state cabinet has also approved filling up 81 vacant posts across the Public Works Department (PWD), Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department and Finance Department.

According to Chowdhury, 26 posts of Lower Division Clerks (LDCs) under the PWD will be created and filled through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT). Among these, three posts have been reserved for ex-servicemen.

The cabinet further approved recruitment for 50 vacant posts under the ICA Department through direct recruitment. These include Translator (1), Reporter (13), Script Writer (1), Cultural Assistant (7), Assistant Photographer (1), Folk Artist (2), Assistant Librarian (1) and LDC (24).
In addition, the council of ministers cleared recruitment for five Inspectors of Small Savings under the Finance Department.

Replying to queries from reporters, Chowdhury, who also holds the Food portfolio, assured that the state currently has adequate stocks of fuel and other essential commodities.
