Security tightened in Tripura to prevent post-poll violence

Agartala, March 1: Several measures including tight security have been planned for ensuring a smooth counting process and combating post-counting violence.
According to official sources, appeals have been made to all political parties, candidates, local political leaders and peace meetings have been conducted in District, Sub-Division, polling Station levels with an appeal to maintain peace and harmony in the post-counting scenario.
The CEO, Chief Secretary and police chief reviewed the situation in all eight districts over the past few days to take stock of the situation.
Around 100 companies of Central Armed Para-military Force have been deployed along with state police and TSR personnel. They are holding flag march. Mobile patrolling in evening and night hours has been intensified.
The major security measures included fixed pickets in sensitive areas including town areas, police coverage and suitable security to political parties and candidates, special patrols by CAPF officers, adequate security arrangements for counting centres and for routes to be used by different parties on day of counting, formation of QRTs by CAPF and Special Striking Reserve for emergent situation and detailed briefing of SPs, SDPOs, OCs by senior formation of police headquarters.
Official sources said, the Director General of Police is personally taking stock of the situation, monitoring the preparedness and issuing vital instructions on a daily basis to district police officers for a peaceful counting process and ensuring zero violence in post-counting situations.
