Seminar on Livestock Health Security highlights innovations in Disease Prevention & Control

A state-level seminar on “Livestock Health Security: Innovations in Disease Prevention, Surveillance and Control” was held on Tuesday at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala, bringing together experts, officials, and veterinarians to address the growing challenges in animal husbandry and public health.

The seminar was organized by the State Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD) to strengthen awareness and preparedness in tackling complex livestock health issues. The program was inaugurated by ARDD Secretary Deepa D. Nair, in the presence of ARDD Director Neeraj Kumar Chanchal and other dignitaries.

In her address, Secretary Nair noted that livestock rearing in Tripura has expanded significantly over the past five years, making it essential to train veterinarians and stakeholders on emerging diseases. She emphasized the importance of preventing zoonotic diseases — those that can spread from animals to humans — and highlighted the role of modern technology and innovative practices in disease surveillance and control.

Experts from Tripura and neighboring states, including Assam, shared insights on advanced methods of disease prevention, monitoring systems, and treatment protocols. 

The seminar also focused on integrating modern technology into livestock healthcare, building effective surveillance mechanisms, and ensuring coordinated disease control strategies.

Participants included livestock specialists, departmental officials, veterinarians, and representatives from related sectors. Discussions underscored the need to safeguard animal health not only to boost productivity but also to protect public health.

The seminar concluded with a strong call to action: adopting innovative approaches to livestock health security is vital for sustaining the sector’s growth and ensuring the well-being of communities dependent on animal resources.
