Shop ransacked for refusing Puja subscription demand

A shop was ransacked after the owners refused to pay Rs 5,000 as Puja subscription to the local Puran Bari club. Owner of the shop said that the club members who had been assigned with the task to organise the community Durga Puja in the area asked for a Puja subscription worth Rs 5,000.

They initially refused and offered Rs 501 but the club members refused. Later they tried to convince them with Rs 1,000 as Puja subscription but the club members were adamant with their demand of Rs 5,000. On the night of Vijaya Dashami, they kept their shop closed for pandal hopping.

Next morning they reached their shop to witness it had been ransacked and in some places the GI sheets had been torn apart. “We have informed the local club authorities but they didn't pay much attention to our grievances,” the owner added.

A video clip shared by the victim showed some club members intimidating them for Puja subscription. They said in clear terms that no amount below Rs 5,000 could be accepted. On the other hand, the victims had been pleading for relief.
