Singing National Song followed by National Anthem now compulsory in all Tripura schools

The Tripura government has decided to make the singing of the full version of the National Song Vande Mataram followed by the National Anthem Jan-Gana-Mana compulsory in all schools across the state as part of the daily morning assembly.

According to an official order issued by the Education (School) Department, the decision has been taken in line with directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, regarding the respect, decorum and official rendition of the National Song.

The order stated that the Union Home Ministry, through its directive dated January 28, 2026, had laid down comprehensive guidelines for the observance of Vande Mataram. The guidelines call for proper protocol to be followed during formal, semi-formal and educational events to foster national pride and preserve the cultural significance of the National Song.

In compliance with these directives, the Tripura government will implement the guidelines uniformly in all government, government-aided and privately managed schools across the state, including government-aided and unaided recognised madrassa schools.

As per the order, the daily academic routine of every school will begin with the community singing of the full version of Vande Mataram, immediately followed by the National Anthem Jan-Gana-Mana.

The government has also directed that whenever the National Song is sung or played, all students, teachers, faculty members and administrative staff must stand at attention as a mark of respect and to maintain proper decorum.

The order has been issued following a decision of the Tripura Council of Ministers.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said the decision has been taken to further strengthen patriotism, discipline and national consciousness among students.

"From now on, every school in the state will commence its daily academic activities with the collective rendition of the full version of the National Song Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem Jan-Gana-Mana," the Chief Minister said.

He said the initiative aims to promote national unity, instil respect for India's cultural heritage and foster a sense of responsibility towards the nation among young minds.
