Sixth anniversary Bru pact observed at Gandacherra

The sixth anniversary of the historic quadripartite agreement signed for the permanent rehabilitation of internally displaced Bru migrants was observed on Friday at the Gandacherra’s Bru settlement village.

The programme was organised at Kananta Para by members of the Bru community to mark six years of the agreement signed between the Government of India, the governments of Tripura and Mizoram, and representatives of the Bru community.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma attended the programme as the chief guest. Member of the District Council (MDC) Bhumikhananda Reang, BJP Dhalai district president Patiram Tripura, Raimavally mandal president Dhanya Manik Tripura, and other political leaders and local dignitaries were also present.

Addressing the gathering, speakers recalled the significance of the quadripartite agreement, describing it as a landmark step towards ensuring permanent rehabilitation, security and socio-economic development of the Bru community, which had lived in relief camps for years following displacement from Mizoram.

Leaders said the agreement paved the way for resettlement of Bru families in Tripura with provisions for housing, financial assistance and access to basic civic amenities. They emphasised the need to continue efforts to integrate the community into mainstream development processes.

Members of the Bru community expressed gratitude to the Centre and the Tripura government, stating that the agreement had brought stability to their lives and renewed hope for the future. They said access to land, housing and government welfare schemes had helped many families begin a new chapter after years of uncertainty.
