Agartala, Nov 02: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday said socio-economic growth of the farmers is one of the top priorities of the state government.
He said, farmers are friends of the society. They are the bread-winners of the country. Their socio-economic development would ensure welfare of the society.
After inaugurating a Farmer Knowledge Centre at Sekerkote under Dukli block, he said, the central and the state governments have taken various plans for farmers’ welfare under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He expressed hope that the new facility would largely benefit the local farmers. The farmers would be able to get information related to crops production and different issues.
The Knowledge Centre has facilities to provide training to 30 farmers through audio-visual format.
He also said, agriculture is the base of Tripura’s rural economy. After the present government took over, the farmers’ income has almost doubled. That will increase in future. He said, the farmers are now being given due respect.
Dr. Saha said, the state government has set a target to build total 83 Farmer Knowledge Centre, one in each agriculture sector office across the state.
The welcome speech was delivered by Secretary of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department Apurba Roy.
Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad Antara Sarkar Deb and vice-chairman of Dukli Panchayat Samiti Dulal Sarkar also spoke in the programme. The vote of thanks was delivered by Director of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department- Saradindu Das.
The Chief Minister also took part in distributing Agri equipment among the local farmers after the inaugural ceremony.
