Call it the irony of fate or a consequence of unsafe migrations through porous borders of Tripura, but visuals of a teary-eyed minor boy escorting his father to a police vehicle implies how human emotions know no bounds and no physical boundaries can ever act as a barrier to it.Â
The father is accused of stealing rubber sheets to gratify his cravings of substance abuse but most importantly after being arrested chances are very rare that he could ever reunite with his son. On being arrested, the accused identified as Faruq Miah disclosed his real identity as a Bangladeshi national. For the last 12 years he had been residing in Sonamura's Kulubari area.Â
He got married to an Indian woman and the couple now has three children. Faruq could have protected his identity had he avoided the dark path of crime. He got involved in substance abuse and eventually started stealing goods to earn enough money to buy the narcotic substance.Â
His mother-in-law was literally pleading herself guilty for allowing her daughter to marry the offender, eventually running the four lives. “My one wrong decision ruined four lives. I couldn’t resist my daughter from marrying him. They were in love. I thought they would live happily ever after. But, this man proved me and my daughter wrong. She (daughter) will have to raise her three children without a father,” she deplored. According to a source in the police department, the real identity of Faruq Miah was not known to the police.Â
“Only after his arrest, we could come to know about his Bangladeshi identity. He had stolen rubber trays and sheets from a local house. The owner of the house had installed a CCTV camera in his warehouse and Faruq was caught red handed stealing the goods on the camera,” a police official said. On being asked what would be the next course of action, the police official said, “Charges will be framed against him for both the offences. He is an illegal immigrant and also a thief.” According to the procedures, after serving his punishment term, Faruq Miah will be deported to Bangladesh. Police sources also said that he hails from Comilla, Bangladesh.
Faruq also admitted that he got trapped into substance abuse. He took the names of Iayanis Miah and Mihir Miah, who had been allegedly involved in drug peddling in the Sonamura area.
But, what stunned the entire locality was the son’s emotional attachment towards his father. He was crying to his heart out as he realised it must be the last time he could embrace his father freely.
