South Tripura Road Safety Task Force launches inspection drive on accident-prone Highways

In a bid to curb rising road accidents, the South Tripura District Road Safety Task Force has carried out a sweeping inspection of several vulnerable stretches across the district, issuing directives for urgent safety upgrades.

The inspection covered NH-108A, NH-08, and the Belonia–Barpathari road, where officials examined damaged blacktop surfaces, blind curves, and poorly lit junctions. 

At Ratanpur and South Sonaichhari, the team stressed immediate repair and leveling of broken roads, installation of rumble strips, solar-powered street lights, protective walls at risky points, and clearance of debris from road shoulders.

In Gaburchhara, instructions were given for rapid removal of roadside obstructions and construction of protective walls. Along the Belonia–Barpathari stretch, the task force identified the need for widening narrow sections, clearing roadside vegetation, installing rumble strips, and placing plastic traffic dividers to improve lane discipline.

The inspection also extended to key points along NH-08, including Dashami Reang Para, Aloychhara Bridge, Jagannath Para, Baikhora SSB Camp, Kalsimukh, Jolaibari Block Tri-junction, Jolaibari CHC junction, Sanchirambari, Shakbari junction, and the Coconut Board area. 

At these sites, directives were issued for installing crash barriers, constructing side drains, pruning overhanging branches, clearing jungle growth, building speed breakers, erecting barricades and ensuring adequate lighting.

The Task Force emphasized that all identified works must be implemented swiftly and in coordination with relevant departments. Officials noted that once these measures are executed, the risk of accidents will be significantly reduced, ensuring safer and smoother movement for pedestrians, commuters, local residents, and vehicles across South Tripura.
