Agartala, Mar 28: The issue of recruitment of graduate teachers is a subjudice matter and the next hearing is scheduled to be held on March 30 next.

In reply to a Calling Attention Notice of MLA Animesh Debbarma, Chief Minister who also holds the Education portfolio Dr Manik Saha informed the House on Tuesday. Debbarma’s Calling Attention Notice was placed relating to the status of teachers’ recruitment through STGT.

Dr Saha informed the House that State Secondary Education Department submitted a requisition to the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) to recruit 230 teachers on fixed pay basis.

Out of the 230 posts, 172 posts were reserved for Scheduled Tribes and 29 posts for the Scheduled caste. The number of reserved seats for the ST increased as the required number of eligible ST candidates could not be found on the previous occasion and the unfulfilled posts were carried forward.

Accordingly, necessary notice for the STGT exam was released and exams were conducted on September 11, 2022. Meantime, one Dipankar Saha Roy submitted a Writ Petition in the High Court of Tripura against reservation for ST candidates. In An Interim Order, the High Court asked TRBT to withhold the result publication.

Later, the High Court of Tripura delivered the final verdict on December 19 last. The High Court capped the upper limit of reservation for ST at 50 per cent of total posts and also asked the TRBT to prepare a list of candidates accordingly. The High Court also ordered that Carry Forward Rule cannot be applied in the case of recruitment of Graduate Teachers.

At present, the matter is subjudice and will come up the next hearing will come up on March 30 next.
