Students of Tripura University’s political science department on Thursday held a protest march in the university compound against a guest faculty of the department. However, the guest faculty Dr Sumon Ali had denied the allegations while speaking to this newspaper.
The protests were primarily led by ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad). Students of IMD (Integrated Masters Degree) and master degree courses had joined the protests. The protesting students alleged that the teacher had harassed multiple female students, made indecent proposals and also asked for indecent favours.
The protestors claimed that multiple female students in the past had been a victim of the guest faculty.
On being contacted, Dr Sumon Ali dismissed all the allegations raised against him and said that he was ready to cooperate with any investigation if the university orders so.
“This is a concerted effort to defame me and harm my reputation adversely. I vehemently reject the allegations raised against me. The university authority summoned me after the protests and I have informed the concerned authorities to conduct a proper investigation to find out the truth. And, based on the findings of the investigation, I shall decide what action should be taken,” he said.
