Sudhangshu chairs Fisheries Board Meeting, Reviews sector progress

The 2nd Board Meeting of the Tripura Fisheries Development Board was held on Tuesday at the Secretariat, chaired by Minister Sudhangshu Das in his office chamber. 

The meeting brought together senior officials and representatives from key institutions, including the Secretary, Director, the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Fisheries College Lembucherra, Tripura University, and NABARD.

Minister Das led a comprehensive review of ongoing programmes and developmental initiatives in the fisheries sector. He stressed the importance of timely completion of assigned projects and urged all stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of approved schemes.

The discussions highlighted the role of fisheries as a vital contributor to Tripura’s rural economy, providing livelihoods, nutrition, and opportunities for entrepreneurship. 

With NABARD and academic institutions present, the meeting underscored a collaborative approach to modernizing the sector, combining financial support, technical expertise, and research-driven strategies.

Minister Das emphasized accountability and efficiency, directing officials to overcome bottlenecks and accelerate progress. He reiterated that strengthening fisheries infrastructure and productivity is central to Tripura’s broader development agenda.

Das said, "The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to make fisheries a growth engine for Tripura’s economy, aligning with state and national goals of self-reliance in food production and rural upliftment".
