Agartala Jan 30: Asserting that the people of Tripura are waiting for a ‘new sunrise’, veteran Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman submitted his nomination papers to Additional SDM Tarit Kanti Chakma here on Monday in a bid to contest the assembly elections from 6-Agartala assembly constituency.
Talking to the reporters on his way to the Returning Officer for filing nomination papers backed by party activists and supporters, Roy Barman said, “People of Tripura have realized the ground reality. What is actually happening in the state under BJP governance and will cast their valuable votes accordingly”.
Talking about the conflicts reported regarding seat-sharing between CPIM and Congress where the Left parties allotted only 13 seats to the Congress but they fielded candidates in 17 assembly constituencies, Sudip Roy Barman said, “I respect and believe on the cause of unity between Left and Congress. We never formed any alliance but it is the seat sharing adjustment between us and we are fighting the polls unitedly for the greater cause of ousting the BJP from power”.
“The AICC has decided to field candidates in 17 seats after receiving reports from various agencies that were deployed across various constituencies of Tripura and also took opinion from party leaders, activists and supporters”, he added.
Meanwhile, as Keshav Sarkar, Congress candidate for Majlishpur assembly constituency announced not to fight the elections from the seat, Sudip Roy Barman announced that the party is now fighting for 16 seats in the ensuing polls and will fully support TIPRA Motha candidate Samir Basu fielded by Motha in Majlishpur adding that, “Our motto is to see that the BJP candidates do not get votes”.
On being asked about poll-rigging and other complaints received during by-elections and other elections during the BJP regime in Tripura Roy Barman said, “Congress has full faith on the Election Commission and the people of Tripura who will come out of their homes and cast votes irrespective of any situation”.
BJP Candidate Papiya Dutta is the only contender against Sudip Roy Barman in 6-Agartala assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, all other 15 candidates of Congress including former MLA Asish Kumar Saha who won the 2018 assembly elections on a BJP ticket also filed his nomination on Monday.
