Agartala Nov 14: Lone Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Monday lambasted the state BJP government for adopting new rules in providing social pension and alleged BJP of cheating the people of the state with fake promises.
Briefing the media amid a press conference at the Congress Bhavan, Agartala on Monday, Sudip Roy Barman said, “On November 4, new rules have been circulated by the Social Education department that school certificate, Madhyamik admit or Birth certificate have to be provided for age proof”.
Barman questioned from where the 70-80 years old people would bring madhyamik or school certificate?
He added, “Earlier pension was given based on Voter Id-Card, Ration card or Aadhar Card as age proof”.
“This is nothing but methods framed for harassing the old people as the elections are approaching”, added Sudip.
Roy Barman further demanded the BJP-led government to unveil the transparency of the present administration by initiating a social audit on the activities done by the government during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Barman also mocked the BJPs assurance of setting up a Dam in the Howrah River so that the Agartala city doesn’t get water logged during rains.
Besides, the lone Congress MLA in the state also took a dig over BJPs unfulfilled fake promises enlisted in the Vision Document 2018.
“Can’t we ask on behalf of the people what is the status of those promises? The present CM is talking about setting up a dental college; the land that was shown for its construction is under a legal problem. Naturally, permission for the college will be in abeyance by Dental Council of India, which means the more the election will be closer the intensity of BJP’s fake promises will rise. And after election all will be forgotten”, said Sudip.
He also raised the issue of deteriorating law and order in the state.
The MLA further announced that the Congress will go for “Tripura Bachao, Bharat Jodo Yatra” from November 19 next adding that the protest will also voice against price hike of essential commodities, unemployment and many other burning issues.
Meanwhile, Tripura BJP Spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty joined the Congress on Monday raising allegations of massive misrule under the BJP-led government in the state.
Addressing the media, Prabir Chakraborty alleged that the BJP failed to keep its promises made prior to the 2018 assembly elections.
