Food and Civil supplies minister Manoj Kanti Deb on Thursday said that sufficient stock of petrol and diesel are available in the state and there is no need for panic buying. “As per the reports I have received this morning, current stock of petrol and diesel is enough for next 12 days and people should not stand in long queues to get the fuel tanks filled immediately. The fuel is available and some fuel tankers are in transit”, said Deb. Attributing the panic buying to some disruptions in traffic at Atharomura, Deb said, “Some parts of the national highway are badly affected by rains and hence movement of traffic has been slowed down. But there is nothing to worry about everything will be taken care of”. The Minister was speaking to the media persons in the sidelines of the triennial conference of government fair price shop dealers held at Agartala today. Speaking about the rationing system, Deb said, “Tripura government has laid enough emphasis on improving the rationing system. All the rations shop dealers are at the liberty to deal in products that they like. They can sell oil, agarbatti, all kinds of grocery items and even products manufactured by Self Help groups are now available in ration shops”. The Minister said to encourage women empowerment, 200 new ration shops were issued in the that are now being run by women. “The Left leaders used to say that if BJP comes to power, the public distribution system will be in danger. But, now it has been strengthened further. Under Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojana, we have been awarded with the first prize as 98 percent of the eligible beneficiaries lifted their ration”, said Deb. Apart from that, he said, 62,000 fake ration cards had been detected and deleted soon after the introduction of E-POS machines in the ration shops.
