'Swadeshi in every home': Minister Santana Chakma urges local pride on Gandhi Jayanti

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Minister for Industry and Commerce Santana Chakma led a solemn and spirited commemoration in Agartala, paying homage to the Father of the Nation with floral tributes and calls for self-reliance.

The day began with the Minister offering flowers at the feet of the Gandhi statue located at the Circuit House premises. She then proceeded to Gandhi Ghat, where she hoisted the national flag and participated in a devotional bhajan session alongside attendees. Floral wreaths were placed at each memorial pedestal, honoring Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy of peace, simplicity, and patriotism.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Chakma emphasized the enduring relevance of Gandhi’s philosophy, stating, “Let every household embrace Swadeshi, and the nation will become self-reliant.” She urged citizens to reflect this spirit in their daily lives.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, she added, “Just as Mahatma Gandhi championed Swadeshi, our Prime Minister has also prioritized indigenous products. On this special day, I appeal to everyone to support local goods—be it khadi, textiles, or any locally made items.”

West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar along with other dignitaries also accompanied the Minister at the day's program.
