The Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital in Khowai district has been awarded national recognition under the LaQshya scheme.
A central evaluation team from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare visited the hospital in September and found its facilities and services meeting all required standards.
Following this, the hospital received official accreditation and a cash award of Rs. 6 lakh. Moreover, if the hospital continues to maintain the same standards, it will receive an annual grant of Ra. 6 lakh from the Ministry.
It may be noted that the Cesarean Operation Theatre at the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital was inaugurated in October 2023 — a step that further strengthened maternal healthcare services in the region.
The LaQshya initiative aims to ensure safe childbirth, improve the quality of labour rooms and operation theatres, and reduce maternal and neonatal mortality rates. Under this project, parameters such as labour room cleanliness, surgical infrastructure, patient care, infection control, and staff training are rigorously assessed.
To share the success, the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Health Department held a press conference on Friday. Among those present were Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Raja Jamatia, Gynaecologist Dr. Sushanta Saha, and other officials of the department.
Speaking to the media, SDMO Raja Jamatia said, This success belongs not just to our hospital but to every citizen of Teliamura. We have always prioritized the safety of mothers and newborns. The recognition from the central government will inspire us to do even better.
Dr. Sushanta Saha added that through the LaQshya project, the hospital has been able to significantly enhance the quality of delivery care with the help of trained staff, upgraded equipment, and regular monitoring.
Launched in 2017 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the LaQshya program aims to elevate the standards of delivery and maternal care in government hospitals across the country, especially in remote regions. Among Tripura’s hospitals, Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital stands out as one of the first to meet all evaluation criteria.
