Tension prevailed in Border Gol Chakkar area after a frenzied mob of locals vandalised the shop owned by one Arghadeep Das aka Tirtha who had been reportedly involved in various anti-social activities. Enraged by his rowdy activities, the locals went after him.
He somehow managed to escape but his shop faced public fury. Several motorcycles stationed in front of his shop and the shop were vandalised by the locals. Sources said, Das earlier assaulted an innocent boy who was returning home from the market. For the last couple of months his mischiefs were being ignored by the locals but on Sunday evening the locals lost temper when he assaulted the innocent boy.
Soon after the vandalism, police rushed to the spot and deployed security to avoid further escalation of the tension. Superintendent of Police West Tripura Namit Pathak, rushed to the spot and reviewed the security arrangements.
“The situation is under control right now. One shop and several motorcycles were vandalised during the attack. Enough security personnel had been deployed,” he said. He, however, refused to divulge any further information stating that an investigation is underway to find out the reason behind the sudden vandalism.
