Tension in Tripura's Gomati District over public cow slaughter on Eid

A public cow slaughter nearby a river in Chanban area under Udaipur subdivision, carried out in violation of administrative directives, on the occasion f Eid-ul-Azha has led to heightened tensions among local residents. As the news spread, strong reactions emerged, causing a rapid escalation in the atmosphere.

In response, a large deployment of police and TSR forces—including the Gomati District Police Superintendent, Additional Superintendent of Police among others arrived swiftly to prevent any clashes or unrest. 

While no violent incidents occurred due to police intervention, the situation remained intense. Following administrative orders, the cow's remains were buried underground.

Speaking to the reporters about the incident, a senior police official  warned of strict action against any attempts to disrupt law and order. 

"We have arrested the accused persons and adequate security forces will continue to patrol the area, maintaining close vigilance", he said. 

He also urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors while an investigation into the incident is underway.
