A theft accused escaped from police custody on Sunday morning, raising a serious question about the functioning of Teliamura police station in Tripura's Khowai district.
The accused- Paritosh Debnath of Bishalgarh was arrested for allegedly stealing electric grips from Dashamighat and Rajnagar areas on Saturday.
Police sources confirmed that at the time of the escape, two SPOs were on sentry duty at the Teliamura police station. Locals alleged gross negligence, questioning how an accused could flee from inside the police station.
Meanwhile, valuable parts were stolen from an e-rickshaw (tomtom) of Pritam Das on Sunday morning.
According to Das, his vehicle was parked in front of his house at Rajnagar on Saturday night. By morning, he discovered that vital mechanical components were missing.
Residents suspect the involvement of an organised gang that carried out the theft under the cover of darkness.
