On the eve of the much-awaited Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the administration has placed 88 polling booths in Khowai district under a strict security cover. Special focus has been laid on the sensitive border areas of Khowai and Champahour, where police and central forces are maintaining round-the-clock vigilance.
Â
Polling staff began dispersal early Saturday morning from the Kanchanpur Higher Secondary School grounds, heading to their respective destinations in 9-Halahali–Asharambari (ST) and 12-Ramchandraghat (ST) constituencies. They carried Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and election materials under armed escort to ensure smooth conduct of voting.
Â
Under the leadership of Khowai Police Station OC Krishnadhan Sarkar, joint patrols by police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) were conducted in areas including Lathabari, Khangrai, Radhacharan Nagar, and Kokborok Bazaar. A “Joint Vehicular Mobile” team has been deployed along the India–Bangladesh border to prevent infiltration or disturbances. Officials confirmed that the overall situation in the subdivision remains peaceful and stable.
Â
Security personnel assigned to all 88 polling stations have already undergone special briefings. Senior officers have issued clear directives to maintain internal and external booth security and to ensure voters can cast their ballots without fear. By Saturday afternoon, armed forces had begun moving towards their designated booths.
Â
The arrangements are being directly supervised by newly appointed Superintendent of Police Bogati Jagadeeshwar Reddy, with district police and central forces working in close coordination. The deployment of adequate numbers of central forces, armed police, and TSR jawans has created a sense of confidence among voters in these politically sensitive areas.
