Tipra Motha demands arrest of attackers within 24 hours; Submits deputation to State Election Commission

tipra motha demands arrest of attackers within 24 hours submits deputation to state election commission

The Tipra Motha party has issued a strong ultimatum to the authorities, demanding the arrest of those involved in the recent shooting of its workers during the Village Committee elections in Udaipur.

A nine‑member delegation of senior leaders submitted a deputation to the Tripura State Election Commission on Tuesday, calling for immediate action within 24 hours.

The delegation met Senior Official Anurag Sen at the Commission’s office in Gorkhabasti, Agartala. Among those present were TTAADC Chief Executive Member Runiel Debbarma, MLAs Ranjit Debbarma and Biswajit Koloi, MDCs Suraj Debbarma, Jiten Debbarma, and Prathmit Debbarma, along with other party representatives.

Speaking to the media after the deputation, MLA Ranjit Debbarma said, “If the attackers are not arrested within 24 hours, the party will announce its next course of action. Since the incident occurred in connection with the elections, we have demanded swift intervention from the Election Commission.”

Debbarma criticised the police administration, alleging that despite attackers arriving in vehicles and opening fire at a polling station, no arrests had been made even after 24 hours. He expressed anger that injured party workers had identified some of the assailants and shared information with police, yet no action had followed.

He further stated that Tipra Motha leaders would visit the site of the incident to speak with local residents and gather detailed accounts. The party has demanded urgent steps to restore law and order and prevent recurrence of such violence.

Debbarma also noted that police personnel were injured during the attack, describing the incident as “highly undesirable” in the context of elections. He stressed that effective measures must be taken to ensure security at polling stations and safeguard democratic processes.
