Tipra Motha flags rising violence in Takarjala, seeks police action

Alleging a surge in political unrest and violent incidents in the Takarjala Assembly Constituency, a delegation of the Tipra Motha Party on Friday met Tripura’s Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag and demanded urgent measures to restore peace and security in the region.

Led by MLA Biswajit Kalai and MDC Suraj Debbarma, the delegation submitted a memorandum detailing a series of attacks that reportedly occurred during and after the TTAADC General Election 2026. Party leaders claimed residents of Takarjala and Jampuijala are living under constant fear due to repeated incidents of bomb blasts, armed assaults, and intimidation.

The memorandum highlighted an alleged attack on April 10 near the residence of BJP candidate and Mandal President Nirmal Debbarma, where Tipra Motha supporters were reportedly assaulted with firearms and sharp weapons. Several people were injured, including the Sepahijala district Superintendent of Police.

The party further alleged that on the night of May 9, four bomb explosions targeted the homes of Tipra Motha supporters in Takarjala and Jampuijala. In another incident, a member of the Youth Tipra Federation was allegedly fired upon by unidentified assailants.

Tipra Motha leaders accused certain BJP workers of involvement in the violence and claimed that political influence was obstructing impartial investigation. They alleged that some accused individuals were being sheltered in Agartala, while police action remained slow and inconclusive.

Demanding stronger security measures, the delegation urged the administration to increase patrolling in vulnerable areas, deploy additional forces in sensitive zones, and form a special task force to identify and arrest those responsible.

The leaders assured the police of their cooperation in maintaining peace, but stressed that immediate intervention was necessary to prevent further escalation of violence in the constituency.

However, this development has placed the spotlight on law and order in Tripura’s tribal belt, raising questions about police neutrality and the effectiveness of current security arrangements.
