Tripura Legislative Assembly’s Chief Whip and Teliamura MLA Kalyani Saha Roy on Monday stepped in to address mounting public distress caused by drainage blockages along the under-construction National Highway stretch between Icharbil and Korailong Choumuhani.
Â
Speaking at a municipal-level meeting held in the Council’s conference hall, Roy acknowledged that the ongoing highway works from Khowai to Agartala via Teliamura have disrupted traditional earthen drains. “With the monsoon rains, water is entering homes and flooding residential areas, creating severe hardship for local residents,” she said.
Â
To ensure immediate relief, Roy led a joint inspection of the affected sites, accompanied by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Executive Officer, engineers from PWD, DWS, and Water Resources Departments, as well as representatives from NHIDCL and Siptech. The visit was conducted in the presence of the Municipal Council Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and councillors.
Â
During the field review, officials discussed practical solutions, including the construction of temporary earthen drains to facilitate water flow during the rainy season. Roy emphasized that swift measures were already being initiated to prevent further waterlogging.
Â
“We are committed to resolving these issues at the earliest. People’s welfare is our priority, and no one should continue to suffer due to construction-related negligence,” Roy affirmed.
