Agartala, Dec 01: Tension simmers in Tripura after a fresh bout of violence in Charilam on Wednesday that led to the death of a CPI-M activist and also injured several.
Taking advantage of the situation, the opposition political parties have geared up in protest.
Claiming deteriorating law and order situation and rising political tension across the state ahead of the assembly polls, Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress on Thursday organized protests and later gheraoed the Chief Minister’s residence here in Agartala.
The rally started from the TMC Office was led by All India Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev, TMC state in-charge Rajib Banerjee, State TMC Women Wing president Panna Dev Student Council president Shivam Saha and others.
Addressing the reporters from the rally, TMC MP Susmita Dev alleged, “State BJP-led government is incapable in all terms. Just before the election political tension, violence has reached to such an extent where an opposition party worker had to die”.
“We want peaceful elections in the state. I want to ask Dr Manik Saha what is he doing sitting over the chair? Why is the Tripura police incapable of stopping such violence?”, said Dev.
Dev further demanded arrest of all the culprits associated with Charilam violence and also demanded exemplary punishment of the accused.
Meanwhile, Rajib Banerjee said, “Unprecedented increase in crime rate across the state starting from rape, drug smuggling to political murders shows the real scenario of BJP’s ‘Sushashan’ in Tripura”.
However, as the rally reached CM house, police stopped the rally that resulted into a scuffle between the agitators and police.
