Tripura Medical College and Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital has decided to create a special pool of qualified nurses for need based service delivery and ease of patient attendants. A nodal officer will be engaged to supervise their need based services and register calls, said an official.
Elaborating further on the issue, OSD to Tripura Medical College Nandan Sarkar said, “The pool of nurses which will be created shall work based on calls. When a patient party requires special care, they will contact the nodal officer and get someone to provide care. And, the TMC authority will fix the charges for the care. Very soon this system will be implemented.”
According to Sarkar, this system is being introduced to fill the vacuum of hundreds of “special midwives” who had been barred from entering the hospital premises.
“The special midwives moniker is self-obtained. From the last ten to fifteen years, some local women had been working as auxiliary car-givers in the hospital premises and they were being paid by the patient parties. The hospital has nothing to do with them. But, over the years, we have received a lot of complaints about mobile thefts, medicine thefts and misbehaviour with patients. Moreover, they are not adequately qualified for the handling patients. As a private hospital, we are liable under consumer protection act and hence we have barred him from entering the hospital premises,” explained Sarkar.
According to Sarkar, the TCM authorities have also formed a medico-legal cell. “The body came into existence on January 02. This cell will deal with medical issues which intersect with legal aspects,” he added.
Apart from that, the hospital will soon constitute a media cell for the state as well.Â
