Trafficked from Sabroom, minor girl rescued from Nepal

A 17-year-old minor girl who was abducted from Sabroom was rescued from Nepal and reunited with her family members on Sunday around 20 days after her missing diary was lodged with the Sabroom police station, sources have said.  

According to police sources, the victim hails from Sadasing Para, Vaishnavpur under Sabroom sub-division, and had gone missing on October 19.

Following her disappearance, the girl’s father lodged a written complaint with the Sabroom Police Station. After an extensive investigation, the South District police successfully rescued the abducted minor.

Police sources said that the victim fell in love with one Trishna Thakur, a resident of Himachal Pradesh. “The accused abducted the minor under the pretext of marriage. They eloped together on October 19 from Tripura. When the investigation started and cell phone locations were tracked, we came to know that they reached Dong area in Nepal,” said a police officer.

The rescue was made possible due to close coordination between the South District Police and the police officials of Gossaigaon Police Station in Assam. Acting on specific leads, the joint police team detained both the accused and the minor girl.

At present, the accused had been kept under the custody of Gossaigaon Police Station in Assam for further investigation. The South District Police have initiated the process to bring the accused to Sabroom Police Station.

Police officials who played a key role in the operation include South District Police Officer Mourya Krishna, Sabroom Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nityananda Sarkar, and Officer-in-Charge Apu Das of Sabroom Police Station.

Father of the victim girl said, “My daughter used to stay at the house of Dipankar Chakraborty in Sabroom. As soon as we came to know that she disappeared from her rented room, we contacted the police and after 20 days my daughter had been rescued from Nepal.”
