Belonia Nov 06: Tragedy struck in Belonia as a five-years-old student, Tripta Biswas, lost his life in a road accident on early Wednesday morning.
Tripta was on his way home, having attended the nursery classes at Belonia Government English Medium Higher Secondary School, when he was hit by a Maruti van numbered TR 03E 0762.
According to his father, Kalipada Biswas, Tripta was crossing the road after getting down from an auto in front of their house while his mother was paying the auto driver.
The Maruti van, coming from Matai, hit Tripta, causing serious injuries. The autorickshaw driver, Mithun Sarkar, immediately took Tripta to Belonia Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident occurred in the Jharjhar area of Jaikatpur village panchayat. The accident has cast a pall of grief over Belonia city hospital premises and affected other schools, including Belonia Government English Medium School.
Officials from the South District Education Department, along with the school's Inspector and Headmaster, rushed to the hospital to offer their condolences.
Belonia police, led by OC Shibu Ranjan Dey, have seized the vehicle involved in the accident, although the driver remains absconded.
Till the time of writing the report, the body of the five-year-old was at Belonia Hospital and would be handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
