Tragic School Bus accident claims one life, injures several students; CM orders probe

 A-60-year old lady died after being run over by a school bus at the by-pass road under the jurisdiction of Amtali police station. The driver of the bus absconded from the spot shortly after the incident occurred. Around 11 to 12 school students suffered mild injuries as the bus skidded off the main road.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the deceased lady was chasing a goat and inadvertently arrived in the middle of the road when the bus was proceeding towards its destination with students. The driver lost his control over the bus carrying students of a private English Medium school located in the Dukli area.

“The deceased had been identified as Khelan Sarkar (60). The locals said that the woman was chasing a goat in the middle of the road when the bus with relatively higher speed dashed her,” said OC Amtali Police station Paritosh Das.

The body was recovered and shifted for post mortem examination. “There were around 35 students out of whom around 11 to 12 students suffered injuries. They had been taken to Tripura Medical College for treatment. All the students had been discharged after first aid,” said Das.

The parents of the students expressed sharp disappointment over the reckless behaviour of the driver. “Investigation is underway to figure out whether there was any negligence from the end of the driver or not,” said Das.

Meanwhile, BJP Tripura Pradesh President and Rajya Sabha Rajib Bhattacharjee who was on his way to an even at Killa stopped by and instructed the officials to take prompt steps to help the students get speedy medical attention.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha had also expressed grief over the incident. “I have been made aware about a tragic road accident which occurred at Amtali by-pass road. I pray for speedy recovery of those who have been injured. I have also instructed the police to take necessary action based on the probe,” he wrote on his social media handle.
