Treat voluntary blood donation a civic responsibility: Governor

Emphasising the need to institutionalise voluntary blood donation as a social practice, Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Saturday said that donating blood should be viewed as both a civic responsibility and a humanitarian act.

Inaugurating a mega blood donation camp at the CRPF Group Centre in the Adarini tea garden area of Damdamia, the Governor underlined that blood cannot be manufactured like other resources and must be sourced solely through human donation. The camp was organised jointly by the Rotary Club of Aspiring, Agartala, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

“Voluntary blood donation is not merely a medical requirement, but a reflection of compassion, solidarity and human values,” Nallu said.

He called for the development of a modern and well-coordinated system to promote voluntary blood donation. “The government may consider the creation of a centralised digital database of blood donors, including details such as blood groups and donation history, to streamline emergency response and ensure timely availability,” he said.

Nallu also urged healthcare institutions and voluntary organisations to work in close coordination to strengthen the blood donation network across the state.

The Governor lauded the efforts of the CRPF, the Rotary Club, and participating jawans for organising the camp. On the occasion, he also released a magazine titled ‘Ujjayanta’, brought out by the Rotary Club of Aspiring, Agartala.

CRPF Tripura Sector Inspector General Sanjay Yadav, Rotary Club president Dr Damodar Chatterjee, and secretary Jhumur Banik Sengupta also addressed the gathering. Commandant of the CRPF Group Centre, Prabhas Kumar Sanowar, delivered the welcome address.

The Governor later interacted with CRPF personnel who volunteered as blood donors at the camp.
