Trinamool has no presence in Tripura, says CM

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday took a swipe at the Trinamool Congress, saying he hoped God would bless the Bengal-based party with wisdom so that it focuses on public welfare instead of making repeated but futile attempts to expand its base in Tripura.

Reacting to the visit of a delegation of Trinamool leaders to the state, Dr Saha said the party has failed to make any impact in Tripura despite multiple efforts over the years.

“Trinamool Congress has no organisational presence in Tripura. Only a signboard exists in its name. In every election, they try to make some noise, but all their previous attempts have ended in failure,” he told reporters.

On reports of an alleged attack on the Trinamool Congress state headquarters in Agartala, the Chief Minister said the incident was being exaggerated.

“No major damage was caused to their office. Some angry people had gathered near the premises, but police acted swiftly and dispersed them before the situation could escalate,” he said.

Dr Saha also alleged that widespread resentment prevailed among people, cutting across political lines, over the “Trinamool-sponsored” violence against BJP leaders in North Bengal.

“Our MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were attacked while distributing relief materials among flood-hit people in North Bengal. Shockingly, a particular section was mobilised for the attack,” he said.

Advising the Trinamool Congress to concentrate on governance in West Bengal, the Chief Minister said, “We haven’t heard of any significant achievements from the Bengal government in a long time. My advice to them is to focus on Bengal’s development. I have also instructed everyone not to create any obstruction for the Trinamool leaders visiting Tripura. Let them come and do their work freely.”
