In a major breakthrough, police in Jatrapur seized 32 kilograms of dry cannabis and arrested a notorious trafficker during a swift operation led by the station’s newly appointed Officer-in-Charge, Partha Nath Bhowmik.
Â
The raid took place on Wednesday evening, barely a day after Bhowmik assumed charge of Jatrapur Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, police and TSR personnel laid an ambush near Kalibari in Kathalia Gram Panchayat along the Kathalia-Thalibari road. At around 7:30 p.m., a black Baleno car (registration TR01-AS-7809) was intercepted. On searching the vehicle, officers discovered two sacks containing the contraband.
Â
The driver, Rubel Hossain (25) of Banshpukur Panchayat, was arrested on the spot. Police confirmed that the consignment was intended for cross-border smuggling. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and the accused has been produced before court with a request for remand to aid further investigation.
Â
Sharing the details, OC Bhowmik emphasized that the operation was part of intensified efforts to curb narcotics trafficking in the border region.Â
