Polling for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections began on Sunday morning at 7 am in constituencies 1 — Dasda-Kanchanpur and 3 — Damchhara-Jampui. From the very start, voters thronged the polling stations in large numbers, creating a festive atmosphere as people from different communities came together to participate in this crucial democratic exercise.
Candidates from the Left Front and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), speaking to the media, confirmed that voting had been peaceful up to 9 am. According to the Returning Officer, voter turnout stood at 16 percent in Damchhara-Jampui and 20 percent in Dasda-Kanchanpur by that time.Â
Officials emphasized that no untoward incidents had been reported in the early hours, and polling was progressing smoothly under strict security arrangements.
By 1 pm, turnout figures had climbed significantly, with 51 percent voting recorded in Damchhara-Jampui and 59 percent in Dasda-Kanchanpur. Together, these two constituencies account for 85,933 voters, comprising both tribal and Bengali communities.
Despite the challenging terrain in Damchhara-Jampui, polling officials managed to reach remote hilltop stations, often overcoming logistical hurdles. Voters too displayed remarkable determination, braving difficult conditions to exercise their franchise.
Authorities confirmed that polling across North Tripura district remained peaceful. Security forces maintained a strong presence, ensuring that the festive mood was not disrupted. Representatives of BJP, CPI(M), and Tipra Motha all expressed satisfaction, stating that voting was taking place freely and without intimidation.
Polling staff expressed optimism that turnout would continue to rise as the day progressed, noting the enthusiasm among voters. Many residents described the election as a celebration of democracy, with communities uniting to make their voices heard.
