Tripura Agriculture Minister joins Farmers in Paddy Plantation drive at Mohanpur

In a symbolic gesture reaffirming the government’s commitment to agriculture and farmer welfare, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday participated in a paddy plantation programme at Gajaria village in Mohanpur.

The event drew officials from the Agriculture Department, local representatives and a large gathering of farmers, underscoring the administration’s focus on promoting scientific farming and sustainable cultivation methods.

Planting paddy alongside cultivators, Nath described agriculture as the backbone of Tripura’s economy and emphasised that food security rests on the relentless efforts of the farming community.

Highlighting the importance of modernisation, the Minister urged farmers to adopt high-quality seeds, advanced cultivation techniques and scientific practices to boost productivity and incomes. “The government is consistently implementing farmer-centric initiatives to modernize agriculture and improve rural livelihoods,” he said.

Sharing his personal experience of working in the fields, Nath remarked: “The fragrance of the soil, feet covered in mud, and the genuine smiles of our farmers make this an unforgettable experience. Our farmers are the true architects of our food security. Standing beside them, recognizing their hard work, and making agriculture more prosperous is our collective responsibility.”

He further stressed that Tripura’s overall development is closely tied to the progress of its farmers. To make agriculture more profitable and technology-driven, the government is providing training, improved seed varieties, modern machinery and financial assistance.

Farmers present at the programme welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that such field-level engagements would continue, encouraging wider adoption of advanced farming practices across the state.
