The Bharatiya Janata Party’s emphatic win in the West Bengal Assembly elections has been described as a “historic mandate for change” by Tripura BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee.
Speaking on Monday, Bhattacharjee said the results reflect public anger against the ruling Trinamool Congress and a decisive shift towards the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The people of Bengal have expressed their desire for political change through this verdict. The BJP is confident of forming the government under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His vision of a Viksit Bharat has resonated deeply, and the results show Bengal’s desire for change,” Bhattacharjee stated.
He linked the high voter turnout in West Bengal to growing public support for the BJP and Modi, adding that the peaceful conduct of the polls was itself a “historic achievement” for the Election Commission of India. “The Election Commission conducted the polls smoothly without major issues, which reflects the public’s demand for free and fair elections,” he said.
Bhattacharjee also congratulated voters in Assam, Puducherry and West Bengal for supporting the BJP, highlighting the party’s strong performance in the Northeast. “In Assam, the BJP won with an absolute majority. In the Dharmanagar by-election too, BJP candidate Jahar Chakraborty has secured victory,” he noted.
The Tripura BJP chief emphasized that the results across states point to a new political direction in India, with the BJP’s expanding success signaling a broader national endorsement of Modi’s governance.
He further claimed that with West Bengal now under BJP's control, the verdict will reshape the political equations of the region, strengthening the saffron party’s footprint in eastern India and energizing its cadre across the Northeast.
