Tripura BJP wants SIR after VC elections
A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday approached the Election Commission to initiate the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) after the upcoming Village Committee elections.
The delegation led by Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee met the officials of the Chief Electoral Officer in Agartala. They said the SIR process would be crucial for ensuring greater accuracy and transparency in the electoral rolls.
Speaking to the reporters, Bhattacharjee said, SIR is set to commence from September 5. In the meantime, the State Election Commission announced the Village Committee polls, scheduled to be held on September 28.Â
He reasoned, the BLOs and BLAs will remain engaged in electoral works for the VC polls.
“On behalf of BJP, we requested the Election Commission of India to postpone the SIR process in view of the VC elections,” Bhattacharjee said.
The delegation expressed hope that the proposal would be considered seriously and necessary steps would be taken.
BJP state general secretary Bipin Debbarma and two others were also part of the delegation.
