
Sikkim were crushed by Tripura. Despite a big-margin victory, Pranab Sarkar’s team had to return empty-handed. The match was part of the Asmita Khelo India Under-13 Girls’ Football Tournament held in Nagaland.
At the Chumoukedima Football Stadium on Monday, in their final match, the Tripura team showered goals on Sikkim. Tripura won the one-sided contest 9–0. From the start of the match, Tripura’s girl footballers went all out against their opponents.
Nina Jamatia led Tripura’s attack and scored a double hat-trick in the match. Rangita Jamatia scored two goals, while Sujata Debbarma added one. Tripura were leading 5–0 at halftime. The state team’s players and the team management were delighted with the emphatic win.
In the tournament, Tripura played four matches, winning one, drawing two and losing one. Although the team could not progress from the group, coach Pranab Sarkar was pleased with the players’ performances. In his words, it was simply bad luck; otherwise, they would surely have advanced to the next round. He added that the girls played well in every match.
