Tripura CM asks for improving Anganwadi centres

Agartala, April 12: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday asked the Social Welfare and Social Education department to improve the Anganwadi centres with a healthy environment.
Addressing a review meeting of the Social Welfare and Social Education department, he said, the Anganwadi centres play an important role in giving education, care and nutrition to the children. Besides, the Anganwadi centres’ role is important in providing care and nutrition to expecting and lactating mothers.
He passed an instruction to the concerned department for preparing a report on the present status of the Anganwadi centres and improving them on a priority basis. He also stressed on regular inspection by the officers.
Dr. Saha said, the standard of the Anganwadi centres has to be improved so that the parents of all sections show interest in sending their children there.
Secretary of Social Welfare and Social Education department Tapas Roy in a presentation informed the meeting that 3,17,327 children in the age group 6 months to 6 years and 36,153 women are getting service through 9,911 Anganwadi centres.
Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy, Principal Secretary Puneet Agarwal, Secretary Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, director Smitha Mol and other officials were present in the meeting.
