Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday gave a strong political signal ahead of the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party would fulfil the aspirations of the Janajati people on its own and not through any other party.
The remark is being seen as a clear message to Tipra Motha, a junior partner in the state government and the ruling party in the ADC.
The Chief Minister reiterated this stand while addressing a large joining programme organised by Chawmanu Mandal in Dhalai district on Tuesday. He expressed happiness over the massive response from the Janajati community during a road show and the joining event.
In recent organisational programmes, the Chief Minister has repeatedly launched verbal attacks on Tipra Motha on multiple issues, including its demand for the Roman script. His statements have indicated the BJP’s determination to contest the ADC elections independently and aim for victory in all 28 seats.
Dr. Saha said that the trust of the Janajati people in the BJP is steadily increasing. He attributed this to what he described as the party’s commitment to true thansa (unity) and its consistent focus on development-oriented activities in Janajati areas. According to him, these efforts have inspired people to place their faith in the BJP.
During the programme, a total of 2,499 voters from around 755 families formally joined the BJP, further strengthening the party’s organisational base in the region. Party leaders termed the development as a major boost ahead of the ADC polls and claimed it reflected growing support for the BJP among Janajati voters.
The Chief Minister said that the BJP is working to establish healthy politics in the state. At one time, extremist organizations like ATTF and NLFT were created to suppress the voice of the people, but the BJP-led government has brought them back into the mainstream.
“By creating tension and violence in this way, one of the largest national parties in the world, the Bharatiya Janata Party, cannot be stopped,” he warned.
While addressing the meeting, Dr. Saha said that those who have joined the BJP today have taken the right decision at the right time.
“Today, after getting down at the Manu railway station, I saw countless people, especially brothers and sisters from the janajati section, welcoming me on both sides of the road while passing through this area. I am very overwhelmed and very happy. People have faith and trust in our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party. But many people from outside repeatedly say that we do not have any organization among the janajati. People want peace, and peace has been established here. Various people-oriented schemes are being implemented for the janajati,” he said.
Dr. Saha said that he has noticed some parties hoisting new flags.
“I understand that they are gradually losing ground under their feet. Some try to stop us by demanding water, some by hoisting flags to inform us of their situation, and some by trying to sabotage our activities due to road problems or in various other ways. But the more they hit us, the more we will hit them—according to the law. This kind of politics will not continue in Tripura,” he said.
Dr. Saha said that one should know how to treat an elder brother.
“The regional party cannot suppress the Bharatiya Janata Party by creating tension, beating people, and creating violence in this way. The Bharatiya Janata Party is not only strong in the country but also in the world. And this party is sometimes threatened that the national party and the Chief Minister will not be allowed to enter the ADC. But the more we are told not to enter, the more we will go inside. We will go to every house,” he said.
In his speech, the Chief Minister also said that 755 families have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in this program.
“I was initially told that 1,868 people would join today. Instead, 2,499 tribal brothers and sisters have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party is getting stronger day by day. The progress of the janajatis cannot be stopped by hoisting flags, organizing water agitations, or spreading lies. The Communists have also carried out such movements in the name of the Jana Sikkha Andolan,” he said.
Dr. Saha said that everyone knows about the corruption going on in the TTAADC now, and yet they claim that the Bharatiya Janata Party government does not give them money.
“The state government has allocated 39.06 percent of the state budget to the TTAADC in the financial year 2024–25. But still they say that we do not give money. So where did this money go? Today, there is no development in ADC areas. The people’s enthusiasm in this meeting proves that the Bharatiya Janata Party will win 28 out of 28 seats in the TTAADC,” said Dr. Saha.
BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, former MP Rebati Tripura, MLA Shambhu Lal Chakma, MDC Sanjib Reang, District President Patiram Tripura, Dhalai District President Sushmita Das, Chawmanu Mandal President Biplob Chakma, and other top leaders of the BJP at various levels were present at the program.
