Agartala, Mar 2: It is quite a difficult task for anybody to fight and win an assembly election of any state after taking the charge of the Chief Minister only 10 months before the battle. But, Dr. Manik Saha made a difference.
Biplab Kumar Deb, the first BJP Chief Minister of Tripura, was removed from the position with barely 10 months left for the assembly polls. The central leadership then picked up Dr. Manik Saha, a maxillofacial surgeon by profession and the then MP Rajya Sabha, and made him the Chief Minister.
While the central leadership’s decision to remove Deb appeared to be right, Dr. Saha’s clean image also worked well in ensuring the BJP’s victory in the face of Tipra Motha’s rise and Congress-CPM alliance.
After forming the alliance, the CPM-Congress sought to draw a narrative to impress the people but the efforts drastically failed before Dr. Saha's magic. The people straight away rejected the alliance and kept their faith in BJP's development modely.
He first bridged the gap between the leaders and their difference of opinions within the party while delivery of good governance has always been his top priority since the beginning. He has also put an end to the menace of ‘Bike Bahini’. He talked less and worked hard in silence, without wasting time, to gift lotus from Tripura to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Under the rule of BJP, Tripura has set an example of free, fair and violence-free election and Dr. Saha has led this journey. This was, indeed, for the first time that the opposition parties didn’t get any chance to raise fingers on the ruling party for booth jamming, rigging and intermediation of voters. The Election Commission also maintained strong security measures with the goal to ensure a violence-free election.
His simple lifestyle and people-oriented decisions seemingly impressed the voters and the results are now known to all.
As the people gave their mandate in favour of BJP, Dr. Saha is very likely to become the Chief Minister and lead the state cabinet for continued progress and development.
