Tripura Congress MLA expelled from Assembly over DGP Suicide Note Row

High drama unfolded in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Monday as Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman was expelled for the day after allegedly using unparliamentary language against Speaker Rampada Jamatia during the third day of the 13th Assembly’s 10th session.

The confrontation erupted during Zero Hour, when Barman attempted to raise the controversy surrounding the alleged suicide note linked to the death of Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar. The Speaker had earlier disallowed discussion on the matter, leading to a heated exchange. When Barman persisted in protesting, the Speaker objected to his remarks and ordered his expulsion, citing disruption of proceedings and use of objectionable words.

Following the Speaker’s ruling, Congress and CPI(M) MLAs, led by Barman, stormed into the well of the House and staged a protest. Opposition members pressed their demand to debate the DGP suicide note issue, further disrupting Assembly business.

The incident created considerable tension in the House, with ruling and opposition benches clashing over procedure and propriety. While the Speaker maintained that discipline must be upheld, opposition legislators accused the government of suppressing discussion on a matter of public concern.
