Tripura earns national applause at GeM Foundation Day

Tripura has been singled out for national recognition at the 10th Foundation Day of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), held at Bharat Mandapam, for its sustained adoption of the digital procurement platform. 

The honour, presented under the “GeM Sustained Adoption” category, highlights the State’s steady progress in embracing technology-driven, transparent procurement practices.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal handed over the felicitation to Dr. Akinchan Sarkar, IAS, Additional Secretary in Tripura’s Finance Department, who represented the State at the ceremony. 

The event drew senior officials including Rajesh Agarwal, Secretary, Department of Commerce; S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Telecommunication; and GeM CEO Maher Kumar, alongside representatives from various Central and State departments.

Tripura’s recognition reflects its growing reliance on GeM across government offices, where buyers have increasingly turned to the platform to ensure efficiency, accountability, and better value in public spending. 

Officials emphasized that the State remains committed to expanding GeM adoption further, reinforcing its pledge to strengthen transparency and efficiency in procurement.

The felicitation places Tripura among the leading states in digital governance, setting an example for others in integrating technology into everyday administration. For a state where governance reforms are closely tied to development goals, the recognition marks another step in aligning public service delivery with national standards of transparency and innovation.
