Tripura eve selected for Asian Judo Championship

Agartala/ Belonia, June 25: Her father runs a bicycle repairing shop and her mother is a housewife – but she, Ashmita Dey is dreaming big and eyeing winning gold in Olympics. She is a Judo player.
In a big breakthrough, Ashimta has been selected to represent India in Asian Judo Championship.
Braving poverty, Ashmita Dey of South Sonaichhari under Hrishyamukh block in South Tripura is determined to complete her studies and excel in Judo competitions.
When she was studying in class IV, Asmita started getting training on Judo from a school teacher of Vidyapith, Bina Sen Debnath. Along with her studies, she continued Judo practising. Her performance came to the notice of people during the National Judo Competition held in Delhi. She was studying in class VII at that time.
Her parents -father Arjun Kumar and mother Munna Devi – supported her overwhelmingly and are doing everything for their daughter without being bogged down by financial constraints. Her siblings - elder sister and brother - are also supportive of Asmita's quest for the highest level of success.
In 2015, Ashmita was enrolled in Agartala Sports School and Manik Deb started to provide her training on Judo.
A confident and hard-working Asmita first won silver in the sub-junior 32 kg category. . In 2016, Asmita went to Bhopal SAI School and SP Solanki became her trainer there. Meantime, she took part in Sub-junior School Nationals at Gujarat in 2019 and she won a gold medal there. She continued her medal haul and in 2022, Asmita won gold medals in the 48 kg category at the All India University in Kanpur and Khelo India in Bangaluru.
Her parents as well as the people of Belonia are happy after knowing that Asmita was selected for the Asian Judo competition.
