Tripura expands Solar Power to Zilla Sabhadhipati Offices

Tripura is stepping up its renewable energy drive, with all eight Sabhadhipati offices set to run on solar power by the end of this month. The announcement was made by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath after chairing the 29th Governing Meeting of the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) at Geetanjali Guest House.

The Minister said the decision reflects the state’s commitment to green governance and builds on recent achievements in solar adoption. All District Magistrate offices have already been fitted with solar panels, and the Sabhadhipati offices will now follow suit. Nath noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised Tripura’s solar initiatives in his Mann Ki Baat, highlighting the success of microgrids in Reang areas.

Tripura has emerged as a national leader under the PM-KUSUM scheme, completing 5,000 installations against a target of 10,000, covering more than 4,000 kani of farmland. Farmers are increasingly using solar-powered irrigation to cultivate previously unused land, boosting agricultural output. Nath said the state aims to maintain its number one position in India under PM-KUSUM.

In addition, under the PM-DevINE scheme, solar microgrids are being installed free of cost in villages without electricity, along with drinking water systems. Nath stressed that “everything now depends on electricity and solar,” underscoring the government’s vision of a clean energy future.

The Minister added that all eight Sabhadhipatis welcomed the decision, noting that their suggestions to TREDA had been implemented. He described the initiative as a step towards sustainability, efficiency, and self-reliance, ensuring that Tripura continues to lead in renewable energy adoption.
